Thiruvananthapuram is an ancient city by tradition dating back to 1000 BC. Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of the state of Kerala is a beautiful seaside city built on seven hills. It is located on the west coast of India near the extreme south of the mainland spreading over a total of 2,192sq.km.

Trivandrum is one of the most beautiful cities of India. Perched on undulating terrain of low coastal hills near the southern edge of the Indian mainland, clean and green Trivandrum. Most of the scholars opine about Thiruvananthapuram that it is an ancient city with trading tradition dating back to 1000 BC.

The myths say about Trivandrum that its name has derived from Thiru-anantha-puram, meaning the "Abode of Lord Ananta". The name derives from the deity of the Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple at the centre of the city. Anantha is the serpent Shesha on whom Padmanabhan or Vishnu reclines. The city being the capital is the center spot for the political activities of the State.

The people of Kerala known for their leftist leanings have always supported the Marxist precepts of the CPI(M) or the Communist Party of India. The city is the hub of all the political upheavals in the state and is considered to be the most politically active. No wonder polls draw more than ninety percent of the polling percentage on a regular basis.

Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple is one of the most famous Vishnu temples in Kerala. The temple is located in East Fort in Thiruvananthapuram district. Lord Vishnu is enshrined here in the Anananthasayanam posture lying on the hooded snake whose name is Anantha.

Kovalam Beach is 16 Kms away from the Thiruvananthapuram city. This is the most popular beach in Kerala which is visited by national and internatinal tourists all round the year. Kovalam means a grove of coconut trees and truly the coconut trees along the beaches gives it a ravishing look.

Vizhinjam is a port city in Thiruvananthapuram which has significant trade relations. Vizhinjam has a beautiful beach and a fishing harbour. The development of Vizhinjam Port city is being carried down. Musueam, Zoo and Art Gallery are important tourist attractions in Thiruvananthapuram. The Neyyar Dam and Wildlife Sanctuary are another beautiful tourist destination in Trivandrum.

Ponmudi is the beautifl hill station in Thiruvananthapuram. Ponmudi is home for several tropical plants and orchids. A beautiful deer park is there in Ponmudi. There are trekking facilities in Ponmudi. Ponmudi Hill is a cool and beautiful one, the valleys of which are really charming.
