Kappad is a famous beach in Kozhikode district. This pleasant rock-studded beach is locally known as Kappakkadavu. It is one of the most charming beaches of Kerala.
The main attraction of the Kappad Beach is a huge sprawling rock outcrop that seems to cut through the sea in an attempt to part it. An ancient 800 year old temple located on the nearby cliffs is visited by locals and tourists alike.
Kappad has historical importance also. The Portuguese navigator Vasco da Gama has landed here 500 years ago, thus opening way to a long social and political relationship between India and the Europe. A stone edifice has been constructed here to commemorate this historic event. Kappad witnessed many such historical landings. Kozhikode was then the most important trade centre then.

The nearest airport to Kappad is Karipur International Airport which is about 23 Km away. Nearest railway station is Kozhikode which is 16 Km. Nost tourists prefer the water route through the picturesque backwaters of Kozhikode which leads to Kappad beach. The tour to Kappad Beach may be incomplete without this houseboat cruise. A boat ride into the countryside offers a close look at the village life of the villages - fishermen launching their fishing nets, women catching fish with their feet, grazing cattle etc.
