Sivagiri Ashram

Varkala is a coastal town in the Thiruvananthapuram district. The major landmark in Varkala is the Sivagiri Mutt, established by Sree Narayana Guru. Sivagiri is one of the major pilgrimage centres in Kerala. It is here that the sage Sree Narayana Guru's tomb is located and place where guru was enlightend and got the salvation.

Sivagiri Temple in Kerala - Sivagri Temple is about 45 kilometers from Thiruvananthapuram and local tourist buses ply to the Varkala Sivagiri Temple very frequently. Sivagiri Varkala is also the headquarter of the 'Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham', a religious organisation established by the Guru to propagate his concept of 'One Caste, One Religion, One God'.

The pilgrimage to Sivagiri is conducted during December and January every year. Narayana Guru had explained about the aim of the pilgrimage. Pilgrimage is for attaining the real knowledge of life. Colourful processions, seminars, public meetings, deates and cultural programmes will be held in Sivagiri in connection with the pilgrimage. Colourful processions, debates and seminars, public meetings, cultural shows, community feasts, group wedding, rituals all mark the celebrations in Sivagiri Ashram.
