Kerala is a state in India that is renowned for its unique geography, tranquil backwaters, pristine beaches, art forms, spices, and more. It is also known for its charming floating houses, extensive tea plantations, ecotourism, magnificent architecture, Ayurvedic treatments, and unforgettable culinary experiences. Kerala is popularly known as the Spice Coast of India due to its abundance of spices that give flavor to a variety of dishes native to the cultures of Jews, Christians, Muslims, and merchants who settled in this state. The state of Kerala offers a plethora of visual surprises such as serene beaches, dense forests, gurgling waterfalls, cool mountain resorts, and more.
It also boasts incredible architectural wonders that reflect Kerala's arts and colonial talents. There are plenty of urban attractions such as amusement parks and shopping malls. The rich culture and heritage of this land is an interesting topic to learn about. Traditional art forms are attractions for everyone.
And let's not forget about the delicious cuisines! Kerala was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and camping under the stars in Kolikkumalai was an unforgettable experience. The Kerala Tourism Department invited us to publish it which also supported my trips around the state a few years ago as part of the Kerala Blog Express campaign. National Geographic's Traveler magazine included Kerala in its list of the ten paradises of the world in its 1999 edition. Kerala has somewhere in the region of 600 kilometers of coastline on the western Malabar coast of India and a large proportion of this length is comprised of fine sand beaches.
It rains in July in most parts of India but Kerala witnesses it around the first week of June every year. The first mosque in India The Cheraman Juma Mosque was built in 629 AD and is located in Methala, Kodungallur, Kerala. Schools in Kerala are affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Indian Secondary Education Certificate (ICSE), the Kerala State Board of Education or the NIOS. Kerala has been able to combine tropical beaches with thousands of years of history and has provided banking facilities and hospitals even in its most remote locations which has increased its overall development.
The state enjoys a high life expectancy of 75 years compared to 64 years in India and 77 years in the United States. Beaches are likely to be high on anyone's list when asked what Kerala is famous for and there are very good reasons for that! Kerala is truly a paradise on earth with its unique geography, tranquil backwaters, pristine beaches, art forms, spices, charming floating houses, extensive tea plantations, ecotourism, magnificent architecture, Ayurvedic treatments, unforgettable culinary experiences and more.
